The History

The Bridge Academy started in late 2002 by the school founders: Mike and Jill Meyer. They began with nine students and 2 mentors (teachers), in Cockle Bay.

The school then moved to the Flatbush Community hall, establishing a lively environment, and providing opportunities for the parents to be involved. Many students were undertaking the Cambridge exams at the end of the year. From this basis, a partnership with Carey College formed. The students from the Bridge Academy went to their exam subject classes at Carey College to benefit from their years of experience with the Cambridge examination system. The results the students got were encouraging and so the partnership continued.

The Bridge Academy then moved to River Hills Primary school, were they rented out classrooms for their students. The school catered to primary students more at this venue and benefited from a curriculum tailored for them specifically.

The Present

The niche Mike and Jill stepped into from the very beginning was one of providing top quality and individualised education to parents and their children.

From small beginnings the school has grown to a role of 20 students and 4-5 mentors in St. Johns (75 Felton Matthew Road). The school is flourishing in both curriculum and size, and is beginning to offer a wide array of subjects for the students to take. The four newest additions to the curriculum are cooking class, art class, environmental science, and woodworks class. The students are having a lot of fun with them.

The size of the school allows the kids to receive plenty of attention, and guidance in understanding themselves and the style of learning that is best suited to them. The mentors pride themselves in the alternative education they are able to provide the students, and their parents/guardian. The Bridge Academy is a place for nurturing personal development amongst the students. Positive life skills such as 'peace-making', working (and playing) in a team, self-confidence, and a good attitude are all encouraged and upheld in the school. The Bridge Academy makes space for right and left brained learners and are open to new enrolments who will be an asset to the school.
