What’s Coming Up?

We have many fresh opportunities developing at The Bridge Academy. Students are always given a ‘say’ in terms of extra-curricular subjects and, or, activities that they would like to see become a part of our school.

We are now running out botanical studies! We have set-up our course and the students are ready to dive into their class-work this term. Last term the students covered a range of 'green' topics and activities, from examining the anatomy of flowers to planting seeds. Shane Pope, class mentor, was blown away by the students' enthusiasm as they saw seeds turn into shoots, and how flowers’ forms actually do relate to their function! He thinks it’s brilliant to see young people being involved in ‘real-life’ examples of science in action. We're doing things the 'gritty' way with this course; getting hands-on experience with nature is such an important part of the modern life and we plan to reflect that in our lessons...

To knock off some winter blues, last term we decided to start physical education sessions. The students have enjoyed getting their blood pumping on cross-country runs around the neighbourhood, soccer, and basketball games. But it’s not just about the exercise, our PE is about building teams, and training students to challenge their bodies in a stimulating environment! This term we plan to continue along this vein, with some subject variation. Dancing classes, aerobics, soccer, and basket-ball training are all possibilities for the physical education sessions.

As well as adding to our timetable, our regular subjects have been tweaked and developed to better suit our students. New project ideas, interesting books, and fresh ways for the students to express their subject knowledge are all part of the course developments. We are enthusiastic about our growth and look forward to hearing the students’ feedback!
